Enriching Education – Part 4 – Do we like to be beside the seaside? Year 3 (2025/26)
Llandudno
ICE CREAM AND FISH AND CHIPS BY THE SEASIDE!
We had an absolutely amazing time in Llandudno! However, we stopped off in Conwy to enjoy an ice cream on the beach whilst taking in the sun. Across the road was a tiny house called ‘THE SMALLEST HOUSE IN BRITAIN’ so of course we went in to take a look around (it didn’t take long!).Afterwards, we loved our train journey from Conwy to Llandudno where we had time to play on the beach before spending some money at the pier – the arcade was a big hit!! When it was time for tea, we thoroughly enjoyed a choice of either traditional fish and chips or some cheesy pizza. After a very long day, it was time for a bedtime story from the teachers and then we headed off to bed in our hostel. The next day, we could spend some more money at the gift shop before heading up the Great Orme on an old-fashioned tram. WOW!! The views at the top were outstanding! We also visited the Bronze Age Mine to discover some amazing facts.

Geography
In our final Geography topic of the year, we discovered that living in the Midlands puts us in a great location to visit the East, West and South coasts. We explored what makes a seaside town special and were excited to discover that our trip to Llandudno had more in common with the Amalfi Coast than we expected even some of the hotels were the same colour! Maybe one day we’ll visit Italy to see it for ourselves.
We also learned how coastal features such as caves, arches, stacks and stumps are formed, creating our own models using Lego before presenting them to the class. Finally, we used our map skills to redesign Rhyl, imagining how it could be transformed and restored to its former glory.
Sports Fun Day
Sports Fun Day was a fantastic morning filled with fun, laughter and teamwork! The highlight of the day was our inflatable obstacle course, where the children had the chance to race against their grown-ups. There were plenty of smiles as everyone gave it their all and a few children were even beaten by their adults! Afterwards, everyone enjoyed bouncing on the bouncy castle and relaxing together with refreshments. The beautiful sunshine made the day even more special, creating a wonderful atmosphere and lots of happy memories for everyone involved.
Maths
In Maths this term, we built on our Year 2 learning by telling the time using both analogue and digital clocks. We explored the properties of 2D shapes and constructed 3D shapes, identifying their faces, edges and vertices. We also enjoyed programming Bee-Bots to navigate mazes while practising clockwise and anticlockwise turns.
To finish the term, we collected and presented our own data using bar charts and pictograms, developing our data-handling skills. We also continued to practise our times tables every week, aiming to improve our scores for Freddo Friday!
D&T
Creating a healthy, balanced meal was on the menu this term! We learned about the importance of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals, before practising the claw and bridge techniques for safe cutting and refining our grating skills. We then designed our own picnic menu, making delicious vegetarian Quorn wraps, a fresh salad and fruity cocktails for dessert. Packed with goodness and full of flavour and it was a tasty way to end the topic!
English
This term, our English work was inspired by Alice in Wonderland. We developed our writing by using adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions, while also expanding our vocabulary and learning new ways to start sentences. We enjoyed writing non-fiction reports about the fascinating creatures Alice met, including the Cheshire Cat, White Rabbit, The Gryphon and The Mock Turtle.
To finish the year, we wrote our own new adventure for Alice, imagining exciting new journeys through Wonderland. We were proud to turn our stories into a class book for others to enjoy!
SMSC – Aspirations Week
As part of our SMSC learning, we enjoyed taking part in Aspirations Day. We explored what the word aspiration means and shared our own hopes and dreams for the future. We discovered that aspirations are not just about future careers but they can also be skills we would like to learn or personal goals we want to achieve. Listening to each other’s ideas inspired us to think positively about our own futures and reminded us that with determination and hard work, anything is possible!
