History
As part of our topic, Year 6 have embarked on a journey back in time to delve into the repercussions of both World Wars on our local area. We began by comparing World War I and World War II, unraveling the theories behind the actions of leaders and the perspectives of the nations involved. We explored into the roles played by Britain’s allies and the axis powers, encouraging students to form their own informed opinions. As well as this, students have also studied the Blitz and created informative reports. They have particularly focused on its profound impact on both London and our local area. The revelation of the proximity of wartime damage to our city left the children astounded! The experience of men, women and children were all researched by Y6 and we enjoyed contemplating the roles that we might have chosen on the frontline or home-front if we were transported back in time!
Whilst exploring the roles during the War, Y6 were lucky enough to interview a Royal Air Force soldier! He informed us all about his role, his experience abroad and how he made the decision to enroll. Children then used the knowledge gained to compare this to the experience of a WW2 soldier.

Evacuee Experience
What better way for the children to understand what life was really like for children during the war than to show them. The children adventured off to Consall to experience how the war impacted children. An air raid siren sounded and the children were off, travelling first by steam train to the countryside and then by foot to where they would stay overnight. They played war time games, listened to Vera Lynn and sat around the camp fire roasting marshmallows and singing campfire songs. An experience to remember!

Science: How do you make the most of your body?
In an immersive exploration of the wonders of the human body, Year 6 students researched into the intricate workings of the circulatory system, discovering the indispensable role of blood in sustaining life. Through hands-on experiments and engaging discussions, the children uncovered the importance of exercise, balanced nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices in optimizing physical well-being. Deepening their understanding, the students embarked on a fascinating journey of dissection, examining pig hearts to gain insights into the mechanics of the human heart. With awe and curiosity, they explored the chambers, valves, and intricate networks of blood vessels, unraveling the mysteries of cardiac function. Through this multifaceted study, the students not only expanded their scientific knowledge but also cultivated a profound appreciation for the marvels of the human body and the significance of nurturing it through mindful living – exercise and a balanced diet is key to a happy life.

Art – Surrealism
In Year 6, students delved into the captivating world of Surrealism, a revolutionary artistic movement that challenged conventions and explored the depths of the subconscious mind. At the heart of their exploration stood the enigmatic figure of Salvador Dalí, a master of the surreal whose eccentric creations continue to captivate audiences worldwide. Through studying Dalí’s iconic works such as “The Persistence of Memory,” students were transported into dreamlike landscapes where time seemed to melt away and reality blurred with imagination. They marveled at Dalí’s bold use of symbolism and his ability to transform ordinary objects into surreal, often unsettling visions. Inspired by his surrealistic techniques, students embarked on their own artistic journeys, experimenting with the juxtaposition of incongruous elements and the exploration of their own dreams and fantasies. Through their exploration of Dalí and Surrealism, Year 6 students not only honed their artistic skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for the power of imagination and the boundless possibilities of creative expression.
